At the end of the list of things to do as we closed our last
class, back in September, I had written “Pick up three pebbles.” Three small
rocks, please. I probably didn’t get around to asking you to do this, since I
got sick toward the end of class. So, this is your "network" today: find three
little rocks. Pick them up. If you can’t find pebbles or rocks, pick up three
guitar picks, if those happen to be handy at your house (they are at mine) or three
bottle caps, or three cheerios. Three.
Imagine each one is a stepping stone in your life story. Let
each pebble represent a part of your story.
The first pebble might be the story of your birth and
baptism. I know you probably don’t remember this event yourself, unless you are
freakishly intelligent. Ask your parents to tell you this story. Who was there
for your baptism? Do you have “godparents” or sponsors? What part to they play
in your life now? Why was it important to your parents to have you baptized
when they did? If you haven’t been baptized, ask about your birth story
instead.
The second pebble might be your first memory of church. How
old are you? Where are you? In worship? Or in Sunday school? Who else is there?
What did you learn about God and Jesus?
The third pebble… a big event. A big happy or a big sad
thing. Did it change how you felt about God? Did it make you feel any closer to
or further from Jesus?
This little exercise should help you to prepare your brain
for confirmation class, on Wednesday, October 23, at 6:00 pm. I will make sure
there is pizza.
Ava will lead the class.
Who will bring fruit?
Who will bring a beverage?
Who will bring desert? Comment below to let me know! Or
